Founder’s Story
HeadStrong began with a question I couldn’t shake: what happens when the ones who always stay strong finally need help themselves? After years of service and leadership, and after seeing the toll that unseen battles take on good men and women, I realized how easy it is to lose yourself in the silence that follows the fight.
I built HeadStrong not as an organization, but as a lifeline. A place where strength is redefined not by how long you can stand alone, but by how willing you are to reach for a hand and rise together. HeadStrong was founded on a simple truth: healing takes courage, and courage grows in community.
Every program, every partnership, and every story we share comes from that belief. We’ve turned personal struggle into purpose, transforming our pain into a platform for others to find peace, clarity, and connection.
Today, HeadStrong stands as a movement of resilience for veterans, athletes, and survivors who refuse to let trauma be the final chapter. We’re here to remind them that their story isn’t over; it’s just entering a stronger, more hopeful chapter. Because staying strong isn’t about never falling, it’s about always getting back up, together.
You don’t have to win every day — you just have to keep showing up.
Where We Began

HeadStrong was built from a place of strength, resilience, and love, and that begins with my brother, Todd B. Turner, Jr.
Todd is a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served seven years and achieving the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. During his service, he was affiliated with both the Chaplain’s Office and a medical expeditionary unit while in active reserve status.
His dedication to service and compassion for others defined who he was — a steady hand and an unshakable heart.
In 2012, Todd’s life took a tragic turn. Just months away from earning his Bachelor’s degree and beginning a three-month internship with Bosch Corporation, he was critically injured in a civilian car accident. The accident left him with slim to no odds of survival and a long list of devastating injuries — a collapsed lung, numerous broken bones, life-threatening internal trauma, a traumatic brain injury, and partial paralysis.
Todd remained in a coma for ten months and was rendered quadriplegic. Yet even in the face of such unimaginable hardship, he refused to give up. Through years of perseverance, he has fought to reclaim pieces of his independence — now able to breathe on his own, speak with limited assistance, and feed himself with support from others.
What could have ended his story instead revealed the depth of his courage and faith. Todd’s strength taught me that being “headstrong” isn’t about never falling — it’s about refusing to stop fighting once you do.
Growing up, he was my role model, the person who showed me that real toughness isn’t measured by what you can carry, but by what you overcome.
HeadStrong stands as a living tribute to him — and to everyone like him who wakes up each day and faces their battles with heart, hope, and determination. His story embodies what we believe in: that even in the darkest moments, there’s always a way forward, and there’s always strength to be found in struggle.
